Enrico Ferrari

Prof. Dr. Med. Enrico Ferrari

Dr. Enrico Ferrari, is a graduate of Turin Medical University (MD), in Italy. He received training in general surgery and Cardiovascular surgery at University Hospital of Padova (Italy), Catharina Hospital of Eindhoven (The Nederland), and at University Hospital of Lausanne (Switzerland). He received special training in minimally invasive cardiac surgery and transcatheter heart valve procedures at University Hospital of Lausanne, Switzerland, where he became senior cardiac surgeon in 2010.

From 2011 to 1014 Dr Ferrari was the responsible for the Cardiac Surgery division at City Hospital of Sion, Switzerland. Since 2015, Dr Ferrari works as senior staff member at Cardiocentro Ticino Foundation in Lugano, Switzerland, and continues working and collaborating with the academic panel of the Cardiovascular Research Unit of Lausanne, and with the University Hospital of Zurich, Switzerland.

Dr. Ferrari is Titular Professor at University of Zurich (Cardiovascular Surgery) and Assistant Professor (PD) at University of Italian Switzerland (Faculty of Biomedical Sciences).

Since 2020, he works as Cardiovascular Research Director and senior Cardiac Surgeon (40%) at University Hospital of Zurich.

During his career, Dr Ferrari has performed more than 3500 cardiac and cardiovascular procedures and, among them, more than 500 operations using minimally invasive techniques. In particular, he is a recognized expert in transcatheter heart valve procedures such as TAVR and valve-in-valve procedures performed through transapical, trans-aortic or trans-carotid access sites.

Dr. Ferrari is active in publishing and reviewing peer-reviewed scientific papers. He published more than 140 original articles and reviews in specialized scientific journals and reviewed more than 1200 papers in 16 years for the European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EJCTS), Interactive Thoracic and Cardio-Vascular Surgery, Annals of Thoracic Surgery (ATS), Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (JTCVS), Swiss Medical Weekly, Journal for heart valve disease (JHVD), Heart, Circulation.

He is Associate Editor of the European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EJCTS), Member of the Editorial Board of the Archive of Sciences Journal, Member of the Editorial Board of the Multimedia manual of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (MMCTS), Member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Visualized Surgery, and Member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Surgery Research and Practice.

He is also member in corporate committees: EACTS New Technology Committee (member) 2011-2015; STS/AATS joint workforce on New Technology (member) 2011-2018; STS workforce on International Relationship (member) 2011-2018; Society for Heart Valve Disease, Workforce on TAVI procedures (Chairman) 2012-2014; Swiss TAVI Registry steering committee (member).
