Biography
Rolf Wyttenbach is currently chairman of the Department of Radiology of the “Ospedale San Giovanni” in Bellinzona, which is part of the “Istituto di Imaging della Svizzera Italiana” (IIMSI, Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale). He is in charge of instruction for the department of Radiology for the USI School of Medicine. He studied medicine at the University of Berne, Switzerland, where he also did his residency in Radiology.
Professor Wyttenbach had a research fellowship at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) with a grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation in cardiac perfusion magnetic resonance imaging. He was awarded the “Jubiläumspreis” of the Swiss Radiological Society for his research work on plaque imaging with magnetic resonance in 2005. In 2011 he obtained the European Diploma in Cardiac Radiology (EBCR) of the European Society of Cardiac Radiology (ESCR). In 2012 he was appointed titular professor (adjunct professor) at University of Berne, where he has been teaching medical students radiology since 2004. His research work on cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging was supported by grants from the Swiss National Science Foundation and the Swiss Heart Foundation, among others. He is currently a reviewer for several international journals in the field of radiology and has published about 50 scientific papers, including original articles in leading journals such as Radiology, Circulation and European Heart Journal, as well as reviews and book chapters. His main fields of interest, besides cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging is urogenital radiology, focusing on magnetic resonance imaging of the prostate and whole-body MRI.
