Elena Battaglia

Elena Battaglia is Ph.D. candidate in Italian Linguistics at the Institute of Italian studies.

She works on the SNSF project [no. 100012_192177] "The categorization of information sources in face to face interaction. A study based on the TIGR corpus of spoken Italian", under the supervision of Prof. Johanna Miecznikowski-Fuenfschilling.

She obtained a BA in Modern languages and literatures from University of Milan in 2018 and a MA in Linguistics from University of Lille in 2020. She was lecturer of Linguistique de l'oral at University of Lille in 2022 and Visiting scholar at the Department of Linguistics of KU Leuven in 2023.

Her research interests include evidentiality, argumentation and epistemicity in interaction, especially in agreement-disagreement sequences, and grammar-in-interaction, especially practices of co-construction and discourse markers.

In her doctoral dissertation, she investigates how, when and why verbal reference to sources of information emerges in Italian spontaneous conversation, combining typological and functional research on evidentiality with an interactional approach to spoken language.
