Abdul Wahid Mehran

A. Wahid Mehran is a Doctoral Assistant in the Institute of Communication and Public Policy, focusing on Intercultural Communication at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI). He examines ethnic identities, differences, and diversity within Afghanistan diaspora. His research interest includes intercultural communication, immigrants, cultural identity, diversity, and media.

Wahid holds an M.A in Mass Communication and Journalism from Gujarat University in India as well as B.A in Media from Kabul University. Before joining USI, he lectured bachelor’s students of communication department at Kardan University in Kabul. Moreover, he has been a Media Instructor in “English for Journalists’ project with the U.S. Embassy in Kabul and worked as a Media Trainer in ‘Peace Journalism’ program led by Oslo-Metropolitan University of Norway for journalists of various media in Afghanistan.

Furthermore, he worked as a Journalist in Mitra television network making reports on political, social and cultural issues in Afghanistan. As a Poet writing in Farsi, he is a member of Afghanistan PEN Association with links to Centro PEN della Svizzera italiana e retoromancia (CPSIR). In 2021, he co-translated a children’s book titled “Walking Together” by Louwrisa Blaauw into Farsi/Dari for Gahwara Online School.
