Objectives

To provide students with a basic understanding of the role of correct ways of managing people within tourism organizations and illustrate the major areas of practice within formal Human resources activities.

Description / Program

The course will be organized along 7 lessons:

  1. The role of Human resources in tourism
  2. The nature of jobs in tourism and the importance of skills
  3. Recruitment and selection in tourism: how to define a strategy
  4. Recruitment and selection in tourism: practical examples of how to hire people
  5. Learning and training: how to identify needs
  6. The role of performance management and reward in tourism
  7. Diversity and inclusion in tourism

Learning Method / Style of Lessons

Lessons will feature a first session dedicated to describing the major contents of each of the topics covered

At the end of the first session, students will be assigned thirty minutes of reflection on their experience on the topic in small groups, using an individual diary distributed on the first day of class.

The second session will feature either a practical exercise, or a keynote or a case study.

Exam Style

Written exam
Active participation during classes will be evaluated.
