Description

Sophie Taeuber-Arp was a universal and transdisciplinary artist and the creator of profoundly innovative works in many fields. She was a teacher of applied arts and a creator of fabrics and objects. In addition to being a painter and sculptor, she was also a designer and architect, a dancer as well as a publisher. In recent years there has been a rediscovery of Taeuber-Arp internationally, marked by the major retrospective presented in 2021-22 in Basel, London and New York, as well as by the publication of her letters. The in-depth research conducted with a view to the exhibitions and new sources have revealed her as a central figure of the 20th-century avant-garde. Taeuber-Arp’s work is also directly relevant in the field of contemporary creation, as shown by artists and designers who deal with her legacy.
