Biography

Alessandra Motz is researcher at the Institute for Economic Research (IRE), and Project Manager for the energy branch of the Observatory for Public Finance and Energy (O-FPE). Her research interests lie in demand-side analyses of energy consumptions, as well as in the transition to a low-carbon economy for Switzerland in light of the evolution of the European energy market.

Alessandra received her Ph.D. in economics at USI in 2021, with a thesis reporting on three stated preference studies of the preferences of Swiss consumers for the sustainability, reliability, and affordability of their own electricity supply. In 2015 she successfully completed the Microeconomics and Econometrics sequences at the Study Center Gerzensee. She also holds a Bachelor Degree in Economics from the University of Pisa (2005), a Master Degree in Economics and Management of Public Administrations and International Institutions from Bocconi University, (Milan, 2008) and a Diploma and Master Diploma in Economics from the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies (Pisa, 2007 and 2009).

Before joining the IRE, Alessandra worked for six years as a researcher and consultant at REF-E (Milan), providing specialized services to companies and institutions dealing with energy markets, and focussing on the dynamics and regulation of wholesale markets for gas in Italy and in Europe.
