Abstract
This article analyses the lexical, metrical and syntactic constants of Shakespeare's sonnets translated by Ungaretti. The primary question concerns the extent to which the result was a "verbatim, word-for-word respect of the original meaning" versus a graphic cast that goes so far as to highlight how foreign the formal scheme was.
