Project Management
Description
Why do so many projects fail? Why do many others fail to deliver lasting results? Why do so many projects experience cost overruns and schedule delays? How can organizations identify and design high-impact policies to improve project performance?
In this course, we will address three fundamental aspects of project management:
- The theories, methods, and quantitative tools used to effectively plan, organize, and control projects;
- Efficient techniques for managing projects more effectively, emerging from practice and research;
- Practical and applied project management knowledge through optimization and simulation exercises.
Objectives
Introduce students to the fundamental principles, methods, and tools of project management in a realistic context, thereby improving their ability to manage complex projects.
The course also aims to:
• Improve the ability to work effectively as team members or managers;
• Develop technical skills;
• Strengthen decision-making capabilities;
• Improve problem-solving and communication skills

Classes will combine:
• Theoretical explanations;
• Interactive exercises;
• Discussions.
Classroom participation is important because it enhances overall learning and the student experience.
A minimum attendance rate of 80% is required to successfully complete the course.
Examination information
The assessment of the course is based on two components:
• Team Assignments (50%): students will complete six in-class team assignments throughout the course, applying project management methods and tools to practical case studies.
• Final Written Examination (50%): an individual written examination assessing both theoretical knowledge and the ability to apply project management concepts, methods, and quantitative techniques to real-world scenarios.
Late submission of assignments will result in a penalty of two points. Assignments submitted more than one week after the deadline will not be graded.
The final grade is awarded on the USI grading scale (1–10), with 6.0 representing the minimum passing grade.
