Biography

Professor Paolo Ferrari is the current Chief Medical Officer of the Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale in Ticino and a medical consultant in nephrology at the Ospedale Civico of Lugano. He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate medical training at the University Hospital of Berne obtaining the certification in internal medicine and nephrology, and obtained the certification of specialist in hypertension of the European Society of Hypertension (ESH).

Professor Ferrari migrated to Australia in 2003, where he remained until August 2017. He has been the Founding Director of the Australian Paired Kidney Exchange Program and was until recently the Director of Kidney Transplantation at Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney. He was appointed as Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2015 (equivalent to “Légion d'honneur”), for his contribution to kidney transplantation in Australia.

Professor Ferrari is the Past-President (2016-2017) of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Nephrology (ANZSN) and has served as a member of several national and international professional Committees, including ISN, APSN and TTS. He is an associate editor of numerous nephrology journals and he is an adjunct professor at the University of New South Wales  (UNSW) in Sydney and at the Università della Svizzera Italiana (USI)

He has established research programs in the broad areas of nephrology, including chronic kidney disease and kidney transplantation. He has published over 180 scientific papers, including original articles and reviews in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters has an H-index of 46.

Dal 2018 è membro del consiglio di fondazione della Fondazione per l’Istituto oncologico di ricerca (IOR) e del Consiglio di Fondazione del Servizio Trasfusionale della Svizzera Italiana.

He is a current board member of the Foundation for the Institute for Oncological Research (IOR) and the Servizio Trasfusionale della Svizzera Italiana (CRS).
