He was postdoctoral fellow at the Brain Research Institute, University of Zurich and at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Department of Molecular and Cellular Physiology, Stanford University, California. In 1991, he became laboratory head at the Sandoz Research Institute Bern, and then moved to Basel in 1997 first at Novartis Pharma AG and then at the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research where he occupied positions of increasing responsibility and was nominated director in 2010. After a three-year experience at AC Immune SA in Lausanne, in 2013 Paolo joined the NeuroCenter of Southern Switzerland of the Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale as the Head of the Laboratory for Biomedical Neurosciences. Paolo Paganetti is currently the PI of the Laboratory for Aging Disorders at the LRT EOC, via Chiesa 5, 6500 Bellinzona, Switzerland

The research interest of the Laboratory for Aging Disorders is the cell biology of human disorders linked to aging, in particular with regards to the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, FrontoTemporal Dementia, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis as well as Cancer.

Paolo Paganetti is a dedicated mentor for young scientists interested in a career as experimental researchers in biomedicine. His laboratory has hosted several master students, PhD students and postdoctoral fellows.
